Daniel Shade

NEW COLUMBIA - Daniel M. “Dan” Shade, 89,  died Monday, September 24, 2018 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.

He was born on October 11, 1928 in Milton and was the son of the late Paul W. and Ursula M. (Fuhrman) Shade.

Dan served his country proudly in the United States Army where he was with the 27th regiment of Osaka, Japan and part of the 2th division of I Corp (1st division) 1st Corp Headquarters and earned a rank of Tec 5.  When he came back to the United States he remained active for three months at Fort Belvoir, VA.  Dan then went on to serve 4 years in the Army Reserves.

On June 22, 1952, Dan married the former Doris J. (Edinger), who survives, and they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year.

Dan was a graduate of Milton Area High School, Class of 1946.  After serving in the military he went on to work for Textron of Williamsport where he was a quality control inspector for 38 years and retired in 1989.  Dan was able to get his pilot’s license while working at Textron and enjoyed flying the Cessna planes when he could, he also enjoyed hunting, shooting guns, riding his motorcycle with his Doris in their younger years and was an avid reader.

In addition to his wife, Dan is survived by one son; Barton P. Shade of Williamsport.

In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by two daughters; Susan and Danna Shade, one brother; Harold Shade and two sisters; Sara Catherine Krum and Helen Royer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 102 Lower Market Street, Milton, PA 17847.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 1, 2018 at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 102 Lower Market Street, Milton followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dale Hippensteel officiating.  There will be light refreshments following the service.  Private burial will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family in Mazeppa Cemetery, Lewisburg.  Arrangements are being handled by Dale Ranck Creamation & Funeral Care, 125 N. Front Street, Milton.
