ALLENWOOD - Heaven gained an angel on Friday, December 14, 2018 when Jean M. (Johansen) Pratt, 97, died at her home with her beloved family by her side.
She was born in Islip, New York and was the daughter of the late Anton and Olga (Olgason) Johansen.
Jean married the late Edward F. Pratt, Sr. on January 3, 1941 and they celebrated most of their 51 years of marriage together in Brainard, NY until his death on September 26, 1993.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by two sons; David A (Carol) Sr. and Edward F Jr. Pratt and two daughters; Eleanor A (Herbert) Mills and Jeanette L (Robert) Scrum.
She was also preceded in death by her siblings; Eleanor Pike, Ann (William) VanEpps and Arthur (Charlotte) Johansen.
After serving more than 20 years, Jean retired from the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles.
Honoring her heritage of faith, Jean cherished being an active member of the Brainard United Methodist Church. She served in many capacities: as a choir member, soloist, Sunday School teacher, and leader of praise. Everyone always looked forward to the church bake sales as they loved her baked goods and her famous peanut butter fudge.
Jean treasured her cat, enjoyed playing cards, singing, flowers, and being a part of different community services; she had a kind and generous soul and loved giving to others. But most of all, Jean was the family’s matriarch. She was unconditionally devoted to her family and loved them dearly with all her passionate heart.
Jean is survived by 13 grandchildren; Margaret Young, Penny (Timothy) Howansky, Nikki Brate, Richard (Michelle) Young, Regina (Miles) Staggert, Pamela Wells, David (Noreen) Pratt, Jr., Paula (Robert) Bink, Edward Pratt, Robert Scrum, Tracy Praga, Patrick Scrum, and Michelle (Jason) Johansen. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren; Beth Pratt and James Pratt.
Also surviving Jean are several great and great great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Local arrangements are being handled by Dale Ranck Cremation & Funeral Care, 125 N. Front Street, Milton PA. Burial will take place in East Nassau Rural Cemetery, East Nassau New York on December 22, 2018 at 2:00PM. A celebration of life will follow at the Tsatsawassa Protective Fire Co., 9 Firehouse Rd, Brainard, NY.
