Sunbury

Mildred F. “Millie” (Rutt) Rohrer, 92, of Sunbury, Pa, went home to her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on July 20, 2019.

She was born July 6, 1927, in Leola and was the daughter of the late Jacob W. and Mabel (Rohrer) Rutt.

Millie was a graduate of Lancaster Mennonite High School.

She married Cletus L. Rohrer on October 11, 1947, in Lancaster, Pa. They farmed many years in southern Lancaster County before relocating to Sunbury. They had two sons and one daughter.

After becoming widowed in 2009, Millie moved into a small farmhouse on her granddaughter’s farm, Kayleen (Rohrer) Snyder, to be closer to family. She remained in that home till her death.

She was very active at Sunbury Bible Church participating in many activities including mentoring younger women, widow’s visitation, preparing funeral meals, missionary support groups and she especially enjoyed her ladies Sunday School class.  Millie was an avid reader, had an exceptional green thumb, enjoyed entertaining and as her family can attest, was an excellent cook.  She was a masterful seamstress and conducted a sewing and alteration business from her home for decades.  She loved being with her family and enjoyed playing games especially Scrabble. Millie also liked crossword puzzles, sudokus, quip-to-quips, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.  Her greatest gift was unconditionally loving others and she exemplified a genuine Christ like character. Others were enriched by knowing her. Millie was an outstanding example of a joyous life!

Millie is survived by one daughter and son-in-law; Beverly and John MacLeod of Smyrna, TN, two daughters-in-law; Kathleen (Bill) Hoey of Sunbury and Cathi Rohrer of Faquay-Varina, NC, nine grandchildren; Jason (Lynn) MacLeod of Pen Argyl, Kayleen (Rex) Snyder of Sunbury, Jessica Dotta of Summerton, TN, Michael (Gina) Rohrer of Apex, NC, Matt (Melissa) Hoey of Huntington Beach, CA, Joshua (Sarah) MacLeod of Smyrna, TN, David Rohrer of Cary, NC, Joy (Brian) Shind of Murfreesboro, TN and Jenny (Chase) Gardner of Holly Springs, NC, one brother and sister-in-law; Jacob and Ruth Ann Rutt of Lancaster.
