Rita Tanner

WATSONTOWN - Rita A. (Tyrrell) Tanner, 66, died Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Watsontown Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was born in Washington, DC on May 22, 1952 and was the daughter of William and Rita (McCormick) Tyrrell of Vienna, VA.

On June 28, 1996 Rita married Richard J. Tanner, who survives and they celebrated 22 years of marriage together this year.

Rita was a graduate of Marshall High School, Falls Church, VA Class of 1970 and then went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from James Madison University Class of 1974.  Rita worked for Mifflinburg Children’s Center and retired in 2015.

She loved walking in the woods, photography, fishing and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Rita is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law; Sara and Dennis Shultz of Moshannon and Megan Davis and her companion Bill Reyda of Northumberland, two step daughters and their spouses; Verna Tanner and Caroline Geist of Olympia, WA and Linda and Steve Patt of Quinton, VA, four grandchildren; Hanna Godley, Molly Maxwell, Ian Maxwell all of Moshannon and Lance Garza of Gum Springs, VA, three brothers and two sisters-in-law; William Tyrrell of Fairfax, VA, Steve and Staci Tyrrell of Fairfax, VA and John and Pamela Tyrrell of Moyock, NC and two sisters and one brother-in-law; Lynn and Bob Ballard of Ashville, NC and Margaret Tyrrell of Gainesville, VA.

Rita was preceded in death by one daughter; Katherine Davis.

At Rita’s request there will be no services and her ashes will be scattered at a later date at the convenience of the family.  Local arrangements are being handled by Dale Ranck Cremation & Funeral Care, 125 N. Front Street, Milton.
