SHAMOKIN DAM - Ronald E. Olson, Sr. 85, died Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg
He was born on October 22, 1938 and was the son of the late Henry M. and Grace A. (Young) Olson.
On July 17, 1965, Ron married the former Joyce E. (Fogel) and together they celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Ron was a graduate of Northumberland High School Class of 1956. He then went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on November 30, 1963.
After graduation, Ron worked at Celotex, then went on to become a union boilermaker for Local #13. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church of Shamokin Dam but was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Sunbury, Boilermakers Local #13, and was a lifetime member of Northumberland Fire Company Number One, the Selinsgrove Moose, the Selinsgrove American Legion, and the Americus Hose Company. Ron loved to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and spend time with them. He also enjoyed golfing, traveling, and joking around with the people he knew and loved.
In addition to his wife, Ron is survived by one daughter; Angie M. Olson of Shamokin Dam, two sons and one daughter-in-law; Ronald E. and LeAnn Olson, Jr. of Redington Beach, FL and Matthew G. Olson of Northumberland, two grandchildren; Livia and Reece Olson of North Carolina, one brother and sister-in-law; Edward and Linda Olson of Boulder City, NV. He was preceded in death by one sister, Sharon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 3249 N. Old Trail Road, Shamokin Dam, PA 17876 followed by a funeral at 11:00 with Pastor Mindy Bartholomew officiating. Burial will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington with full Military Honors. A celebration of life is being planned by the family at a date and time to be announced.
