MILTON - Sylvester H. “Syl” Bowers, 74, died Sunday, May 26, 2019 at his residence.
He was born in Mount Wolf on July 20, 1944 and was the son of the late William H. and Bertha P. (Sinsabaugh) Bowers.
On September 29, 1970 Syl married the former Barbara E. Phelps, who survives, and they celebrated 48 years of marriage together last year.
After graduating from Mount Wolf High School, Class of 1962 Syl went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged after serving three tours in Vietnam.
Syl was an outdoors man, he enjoyed hunting and fishing but most of all he loved spending time with his family. He worked and retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Lewisburg as a Corrections Officer and then went on to work for and retire from the Union County Prison.
In addition to his wife, Syl is survived by one son and daughter-in-law; William H. and Heidi Bowers of Whitewater, Cal., three daughters; Kimberly D. Whipple of Milton, Carol Splat of Mount Wolf and Robin Chohany of York, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Syl was preceded in death by one son; Bud Bowers and two brothers; George and Stewart Bowers.
Services for Syl will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Dale Ranck Cremation & Funeral Care, 125 N. Front Street, Milton.
