Wayne E. Hort

NEW COLUMBIA - Wayne E. Hort, 75, died Saturday, February 8, 2025 at his home with his wife by his side.

He was born on May 28, 1949 in Bloomsburg and was the son of the late Samuel H. and Martha (James) Hort, Sr.

Wayne served his country proudly in the United States army and served during the Vietnam War where he was a Silver Star recipient.

On October 7, 1978 Wayne married the former Rita J. (Campbell) who survives of New Columbia, and they celebrated 46 years of marriage together last year.

He was a graduate of Danville High School Class of 1967. After serving his country, Wayne worked for the Lewisburg Federal Bureau of Prisons, Lewisburg in many different capacities and retired after 20 years on August 31, 1999 as a project manager.

Wayne was a member of Straub Lutheran Church, Danville, the Danville Mahoning Lodge #224, the Calvary Commandry #37, the Danville Royal Arch Chapter #239, the Caldwell Consistory Bloomsburg, the Irem Shrine, Dallas, the forty & Eight Club, The Laramie, Wyoming, Washington Fire Company, Milton Legion Post#71, Milton VFW Post #1665 and the Loyal Order of Moose #171, Milton.

He was an avid John Wayne fan and loved to participate in reenactments in West Virginia, horses, and collecting guns.

In addition to his wife, Wayne is survived by one son; Jeremy and Lydia Hort of Mifflinville, two step sons; Kory L. Friese and his fiancé; Teresa Ritter of Milton and William C. Friese of Renovo, 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, one brother and sister-in-law; Franklin E. and Gail Hort, Sr. of Milton and three sisters; Paula J. Kremer of Laremy, Wyoming, Sharon L. Kratzer and her companion Thomas Hogendobler of Danville and Sandra K. Lewellyn and her companion Jack Stillwagon of Carlisle.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by one brother; Samuel H. Hort, Jr.

All services for Wayne will be scheduled for a later date at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by Dale Ranck Cremation & Funeral Care, 125 N. Front Street, Milton.
